GENERATION GUCCI
Presented as a lookbook shot by Demna of an imaginary Gucci show that never happened, Generation Gucci represents his ongoing research into archival and visual codes across different eras of the brand’s history, seen through Demna’s lens. It combines different generations of product and imagery into one aesthetic narrative, anticipating his personal vision for the House, which will be revealed in February.
The looks open with lightweight tailoring in an archival silk faille, woven to simulate an aged handfeel. Foregoing buttons, sartorial womenswear fastens with minimal clasps: 2-piece suits with legging-fit pants and the ultimate Gucci pencil skirt.
Minimal jeans feature a seamless construction, invisible pockets, and concealed closures. Refined travel suits in silk offer the comfort of pyjamas, while surfer wetsuits inform the lines of a technical mockneck and a bodycon leather jacket.
Textured coats have the lightness and ease of a peignoir, cut from strips and pieces of shearling with silk, goat hair, and feathers, linked in intricate patterns atop sheer bases and linings.
A party wardrobe is made up of underwear-inspired garments worn with silk blousons, draped miniskirts with matching tops, and minimal gowns in fluid jersey and silk chiffon.
Reimagining 70s and 90s House signatures, racer jackets feature a Web stripe and belts debut a sliced interpretation of the iconic Double G buckle, alongside head-to-toe leather and suede looks, and equestrian-print silk ensembles inspired by archival silk scarves.
Footwear is defined by sleek lines: Valigeria-inspired ballerinas are back in men’s sizes, and streamlined loafers are made with the unstructured lightness of dancing shoes.
Stilettos with cushioned footbeds have innovative seamless heels, and classic loafers dotted with metal spikes suggest heirlooms customized by their new owner.
The Lunetta Phone+ shoulder bag in monogrammed canvas and chainmail holds all the daily essentials one needs. The Jackie 1961 is reimagined as a compact rectilinear shape or softened and magnified in calfskin and croc, while the Dionysus bag takes on a new angular form and edgy silhouette.
